How do the regs work with adding 18mm to each side of the cab above hob?
I have done a few door refurbs and yes they are worth doing.
I had a replacment door enquiry today where they want a gloss white door on to a oak cab' should be interesting

Strictly speaking it wouldn't meet regs. but it didn't before as it doesn't look like PJK replaced the worktops or the hob so the original gas installer shouldn't have done it.

The standard regs are normally a set height off the burners and normally 50mm to the sides.

To be honest I would have probably done the same as PJK, advise them it doesn't meet regs but as you're not touching that part, you let them make the choice.

Before anybody shoots me down in flames (pun intended) I know that as soon as you flag up an issue you are strictly liable for it, but if it was something I thought was dangerous I would refuse to do it, clearly in this instance its lasted for many years without issue, so whilst I wouldn't design a kitchen from the off like it, I also wouldn't be a jobsworth and insist it was changed.

Cheers CR I would have said something very similar but not as well I opted to add on the panel rather than taking the units down and changing the cheeks because it was already wrong and if they did start to get effected by the heat it was a small job to change the plant on panels rather than the replaced cheeks.

We tend to avoid these sort of jobs as most of the time the cabs themselves are in such poor condition that it can be a false economy.

Having said that I did a job where I fitted some B&Q Ivory gloss slab doors on a 20 year old MFI kitchen, knocked off the tiles and re plastered and fitted new laminate tops with upstands. I even managed to get the wall end panels on the two cabs either side of the hood off with the cabs still in situ and cam and dowel some gloss end panels and refit. This was because I was changing an integrated extractor with a chimney hood and there was no room for plant-ons.

I retiled the floor with some porcelain tiles and the job looked a million dollars despite the fact it was on oak carcases.....I always worry that you might see the colour of the old cabs when it's such a drastic change but in fact...you never really do.

And if you can make good money on a 2 day job then more power to you.....

Yes there is a carbon fibre affect it the top Snezza. I have no idea mate where there from or what make they are as they're the existing.

Make overs can make good money, and keep everybody happy.

I did do work for a small firm who mainly do make overs but his ways are odd. Like you have brought all your end panels flush with the doors he would have them flush with the carcass because it was cheaper..

He wouldn't entertain removing the side of a cab and integrating an end panel etc.

They way you work is certainly the best way and it shows!

Looks really good mate. I do loads of these. Kind get bored of them. Though it is surprising the contrast on occasions.

Main thing I find is that often the units are not square and I have to drill out the doors

Give me a new kitchen any day.
