Nah, to be fair though - I've got to hand it to you on that one mate, it's a top fit right there. Is nice to be able to see the space needed I the down draft unit too. 
Mixing the colours look very affective, especially to match in the utility room.

That looks larger than normal TBF But could just be the pic or maybe it's got an additional silencer box fitted, not sure. Most also can be fitted with universal handing. i.e the motor mounted either on the back or the front.

I was in a bit of a quandary about how to access that Downdraft cabinet and keep the look & line of those drawer fronts. The bottom hinges work well and it's not as if it needs to be opened evey day. When I was connecting up that hood, I just unclipped the door.

Again, in my original design, I had more of the wood grain doors but the Client felt in this instance "less was more"

Yes, this one has the option of front or rear mounting of the motor.

I normally try and configure my design so that the motor mounts at the rear in a reduced depth cabinet, as per the design above. If the motor is mounted at the front, it takes up so much space in the cabinet below the hob that it's virtually pointless trying to put drawers below the Hob.

I don't remember the motor being bigger than any of the other Downdraft motors I've fitted...??
The extra smaller box to the right of the motor is the electronic control box.

I did a siemens one a few years back but I didn't remember it being so deep. That's why I thought it had an additional silencer box over the motor. The motor looks around 300mm deep plus what... 100 for the cage around the moving slider. So all in 400mm? Does that sound about right? 

In comparison the Falmec downdraft is 191mm deep all in, so less than half. In fact on a job earlier this year I increased the depth on a run of base units to 700mm and coupled the Falmec DD with a linear Siemens hob and although it was set up as cupbaord space below, I would have had room to install 450mm deep blum drawers. Although granted the Falmec is a couple of hundred quid more.

That mesh-looking box 361 X 321, is that the additional silencer you mentioned?

Your size of 400mm total depth is'nt far out. It's about 360mm for the Siemens D/D, but then all the D/D's that I've fitted have been this sort of depth.

The depth of that Falmec certainly looks substantially shallower, but what's it's performance like?  How many cubic meters of air per hour does it shift and what is the db rating?

No the mesh box is the filter when it's set up in re-circulation mode and sits under the plinth

The silencer boxes i'm on about are just metal boxes with insulation in that bolts over the motor. I thought Siemens did a version but maybe not.

Performance wise, the slim-line motor shown above is rated at 600m3/h and 50db. But there are a choice of about 6 different motors most of which are remote and range from 950m3/h up to 1500m3/h

Nice layout, I actually prefer this kind of peninsula to an island, I think it divides the room nicely ..... I always struggle to convince Clints though.

I'm so weary of downdrafts and Clints from Clints about poor performance under intense use.  I know you use them a lot Snez, do you never have any come backs on them ?
