not at all. keeps it all in place while the granite is fitted.
Just wondered if it was gonna be a integrated fridge or wine cooler. They sure are one flash family moving into this place. Got another question now.lol ( Think this island is freaking me out a little) Am I assuming right that the hob is gonna go opposite the cooker run? If so I guess the granite will be cut the the profile of the doors. Whats happening opposite? Is the granite being cut to profile of doors all the way round or will it go straight across opposite the hob making a space for a couple of stools?

There's a Siemens American style Fri/Freezer going to be "fitted" in the kitchen. It's the Black mirror finish model.
Hopefully, if things go to plan, the job will be all finished by the end of the week and then I can take a full set of photos. I just read your addition Steve. The Hob is going to be fitted in the unit, as if your back was to the sink. On the opposite side of the Island, the granite top wont "Break-In" quite as much as it does on the Hob side. The client wanted enough of a worktop overhang to be able to sit with a couple of stools, as you correctly guessed. The unit on the seating side is purely there to access the Downdraft for servicing etc. Snezza.

I see. Should look nice once the granite is fitted.
I was gonna ask for a birdeye view picture if the granite was being cut to the doors all the way round

The Granite guy and I agreed that the worktop should overhang the cabinets all the way round by 30mm, rather than the normal 40mm. It's probably just as well, as there isn't much spare Granite left off the slab.... It does look better with the J-handled doors and gives easier access to the handle. I wasn't too bothered about access to the handles on the downdraft cabinet, as it will be rare that they would need to be opened. The attached motor on a downdraft is fairly substantial and does take up a fair bit of room, so I don't think the client will be storing much in there anyway.

Snezza,
Could you get a few close ups of the downdraft unit? I haven't seen one before & am interested to see how it looks & stows away? Does it pull up? Jaymo

Ive just fitted a j handle kitchen and their corian guy advised the customer to have 40mm overhang. I tried to tell them 25 to 30mm ( the doors with buffers were only 21mm) would be best but would they listen.....

Really like the island
Funny enough I had the granite templaters round on a job on Friday and they were telling me about a huge island they'd just done, which was basically a full size slab. He showed me pictures of them trying to get it off the van and it didn't look clever! Rather them than me!

The motor is mounted low down on the back of the hood, although you can mount them under the hob on the front of the hood, in-line in the ducting or on the outside of the building. If I remember correctly, the template and fitting for this Granite job was £550 (+ Vat) for Template and Fit. |
