A couple of years ago I was called out to repair a dropped sink (not one of mine)
It was a large rectangular sink only glued to the worktop with resin. The guy filled it with water then threw in a cast iron pan and bang the sink was at the bottom of the unit. So I always build a frame to avoid that Phone call

I also build a supporting frame for undermount sinks. The last 3 stone companies that i have used over the years said this was the way they wanted it done......no matter whether the sink was s/steel, composite or ceramic.
If the frame is built in such a way to enable the sink to be removed in the future, and the frame can be dropped out of the way, I don't see a problem with it. I know stone companies don't like drilling fixing holes in Quartz & Granite. Having said that, a lot of the modern adhesives that are used nowadays are brilliant. As long as the surfaces to be bonded are prepared in the right way and the correct adhesive used for the appropriate application. The example that springs to my mind is when the Hob retaining clips/strips need to be fixed to the Hob cut out sides. I use a tube of adhesive recommend by my stone company and it is fantastic stuff......you have to leave the adhesive to set over night before fitting the Hob, but once set, the clips are virtually impossible to remove.

Their two stone fitters also swear by the adhesives so I have let it rest.

Don't want to name supplier ...still working with them towards solution without prejudice, but a large outfit. Went to them as they were covered by furniture ombudsman, good feedback ...and not the cheapest by far! ...It's Quartz.

A couple of renders here of the Smeg Undermount:

For me, the second cut out looks a whole lot better. And the radii are spot on.
Laser templating has it's pitfalls if I'm honest. It's supposed to speed up the lead times between templating and fitting but it is subject to human error. The best method is to use clear acrylic sheets whereby the positions of sink bowls can be clearly seen and for the templaters to take away the cut out diagrams with them. The last job we did before Christmas was a fit only for us and the granite company were not one we have had much experience with. it was template with a laser and the templater spent half an hour taking pics of the sink dimensions from the MI's. They fitted the granite but when we came to install the sinks (a day later) we realised that they had only allowed for the bowl and not the tap so we had to bastardise the side gables of the base unit to receive the tap tails. We got around it as we always do but it took nearly half a day to fit a kitchen and utility sink. Just to reiterate, the company we use "used to" fabricate on site but they always cleared up and hosed down their mess before leaving. Problem was their fitters were fabricating outside in all weathers which is ok in the summer but can be a bit demanding when its snowing or pissing down in the winter so they moved over to laser templating. Their lead times are 2-3 days between templating and fitting. We've had practically no call backs from them and they are half the price of a lot of their competitors...and you can find their website at the top of the page in the advertisers box.
