Granite Sink Cut Wrong? - M00sealini - 28-12-2017

We recently had granite worktops fitted and we are disappointed with the cut for the 1.75 under-mount sink. The fitter asked in advance if we wanted the granite to overhang slightly, so yes this is what we wanted, I believe it is called a 'negative reveal'. However we expected the cut to follow the lines of the 1.75 sink and the negative reveal would be consistent and equal. When we questioned the cut, the fitter insisted that the cut he made was normal for this type of sink ...We can't find any pictures online with a 1.75 sink cut this way and think that we are getting fobbed off. Any thoughts?
Added for clarity ...The fitter did not refer to the manufacturer's tech drawings or specification at any point. He measured with a tape measure then cut and polished with an angle grinder ...hence the quality of the corners and the difference sized overhangs. The sink was onsite at the time so i think we have suffered from the restrictions of an onsite cut compared to proper template and factory cut.

According to the Smeg technical drawing found here the cutout looks correct

As Daz points out the cut out looks correct according to Smeg.
However, for what it’s worth, in my opinion it doesn’t look correct aesthetically. I would have wanted the cut indented to follow the lines of the smaller bowl.
BUT, I don’t think you will have a leg to stand on as all stone fabricators will follow manufacturers guidelines unless requested to do otherwise.
I would advise looking for a different sink which has a bowl and half that are the same depths .... Blanco Andano 340/180 U perhaps !!

I don't think the fitters have followed the cut out dimensions across the width.
342 + 30 + 181 = 553mm so to have that overhang is wrong. The depth of the cut really ought to be 401mm and it is anything but that.
It looks dreadful. I don't know how any fitter could walk away from that with a clear conscience or try to insist that is "normal".

I agree with Daniel, Olly & Stretch......it looks shit!
Smeg may well suggest that the worktop cut out is just a rectangle with radius corners, but how anyone in good conscience could walk away and say that looks good, wants shooting....!
and if the radius of those corners is supposed to be matching R15 as it states on their specification, then my arse is a banjo....!!!!!Every radius looks like a different size...

I think that your templater has allowed for the overhang you specified without really considering how it would look with the 3/4 bowl. Technically this cutout is right (and to your specification) but it looks pretty rough. If your really unhappy you could ask them to rework it to make it bigger, but they would need to take it and put iron their cnc. Is it a big company? You may have more luck with a small friendly fabricator fabricator!

Actually those radius are never r15’s so it’s wrong!
