So the flat we bought has a Magnet fitted kitchen (Urban Lineaire – it’s a white gloss handleless design that’s 23mm thick). Annoyingly, the sellers took the integrated dishwasher (and its door) when they left and we can’t get it back. This has left us in a bit of a pickle for two reasons:
(1) Magnet has replaced its UrbLin range with a thinner version of the same design that’s only 18mm thick (Planar) and
(2) the gap where the dishwasher will go is an unusually wide 615mm.
I tried to get a replacement UrbLin appliance door from Magnet Trade/Express but the range is discontinued and they are all out of appliance doors nationwide. We might be able to get a standard UrbLin cupboard door and retrofit it to a dishwasher front, but it would be the standard 597mm width so probably wouldn’t look good in a 615mm gap?
We thought about putting a new Planar appliance door on the (soon-to-be-bought) dishwasher but it won’t sit right next to the old UrbLin cupboards that are either side of it. The difference in thicknesses between UrbLin and Planar would mean the “handle” grips at the top of the doors won’t line up. We could solve that problem by replacing the UL cupboard doors to the left and right with Planar, but the Planar door will be 597mm so we’d still have a 597mm door in a 615mm gap.
Why is the gap 615mm? Seems strange. Might have something to do with the fact that someone once fitted a child lock to the cupboard on the right and that required a clip to be put on the side of that cupboard (you can see the two locking clips in the pic that I’ll attempt to upload). I did also wonder if the sellers widened the gap when removing the dishwasher by wiggling it out from side to side (?) but couldn’t see any obvious signs of this as the cupboards either side of the dishwasher gap look like they’re in the right place.
What would you do? I have zero experience in all this, and would really appreciate any wisdom you might be able to share.
- Would the best option be to find a company that does a similar handleless design that can custom size doors and to get them to make a door that’s around 610mm wide?
- Or do you think a 597mm door on a dishwasher in a gap that’s 615mm won’t look bad?
- Would you in any case want to close up the gap between the adjacent cupboards and the dishwasher sides to stop crumbs etc getting through the gaps (the gaps would be around 8mm each side)? If so, how?
Thanks to all for your thoughts. (And sorry for the long post!)
