Induction Hob - Separator Panel ??

I need the help of experts. I am replacing my Belling ceramic hob which has drawers underneath - no oven.

I have ordered a Whirlpool ACM802/NE Induction hob from Currys. It is to be delivered on Thursday and I have an electrician lined up. I have been reading through the installation instructions and it says I must install a separator panel underneath the hob.

Totally ignorant here. What exactly is a separator panel? Are they special? Can someone please advise where to get one and how it should be fitted?

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Hi Linda,

The separator panel is nothing special, as such.

It is normally supplied by the kitchen manufacturer on a new kitchen (Well, my German supplier does anyway!!!)

It is basically an 8mm MFC panel (the same material as the back of kitchen wall units) that just sits on a couple of supports a few mm below the hob. It is normally fitted above a working drawer and, as I am led to believe, it helps to prevent the metal objects in the drawer from interfering with the magnetic field that is produced by an induction hob. Without the panel in place, the metal objects can heat up!

No i think you just about covered it all snezza, the only thing is not to fit it tight to the underside of the hob and ventilate the air space you have covered.

Yes you're right Prem, the distance from the hob to the separator panel varies depending on the manufacturer of the hob. Just follow the instructions supplied with the hob Linda, and you wont go wrong.

snezza and the rest of you fellas thank you so much for responding. You have answered two questions in one. Without the board the cuttlery in the top drawer would have heated up. I have measured where the panel should go, so am just now looking for some of this 8mm MFC panel.
