Granite Sink Cut Wrong?

The problem really is with the sink and not the installers if you ignore the poorly cut corners. It does look bad but it wouldn't have looked that great even if they had followed the line of the smaller sink as well. There would need to be two tight radii very close to each other and I think that may have looked just as bad. 

I avoid anything Smeg like the plague. I've read so many articles where they perform poorly in terms of reliability. That is the appliances but I have no reason to believe that they can't be just as inept with sinks. This would seem to back that up.

We recently had granite worktops fitted and we are disappointed with the cut for the 1.75 under-mount sink. The fitter asked in advance if we wanted the granite to overhang slightly, so yes this is what we wanted, I believe it is called a 'negative reveal'. However we expected the cut to follow the lines of the 1.75 sink and the negative reveal would be consistent and equal. When we questioned the cut, the fitter insisted that the cut he made was normal for this type of sink ...We can't find any pictures online with a 1.75 sink cut this way and think that we are getting fobbed off. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your input. The fitter did not refer to the manufacturer's tech drawings at any point. He measured with a tape measure then cut and polished with an angle grinder. I didn't see his cowboy hat, but in hindsight i should have looked for it beforehand...I think we have suffered from the restrictions of an onsite cut compared to template and factory cut.

Not good. 

Not much of a leg to stand on with the template's due to them following instructions. Having said that they should have used there experience to notice the way it should be shaped if the sink was there onsite at the time.

Moving forward try to find a new sink to fit.

Smeg are rubbish for putting you in this postion.  They won't care though.

Is this another Wickeys special by any chance,there template's are useless

So they didn’t template this, they just cut it on site?! Sounds a bit odd! Is it quartz or Minerva/ Slabtech? Is it from wicked?

I find it odd as well Daniel,....but I believe Stretch & Claydon Lad use a company that do all the fabrication on site including the cut outs for undermount sinks.

The mess would concern me, & my Clints I would have thought!

I would think by the quality of his work it may have looked a lot worse following the sinks extra radii, if he can't do simple internal corners, adding another 2 and 2 externals would look just as bad.

Did you ask for the drainer grooves on the left, usually they are on the small bowl side?

I would also be looking at how it is stuck to the quartz, ie just clear silicone and a prayer.

We actually asked for drainer grooves on both sides, but were advised otherwise on the day. The sink is not stuck on, it is trapped between the kitchen cabinet and the slab. We asked him not to silicon because we are expecting the section to be factory cut and replaced. 

This is our first kitchen replacement and experience with under mount sink and quartz ...the company seemed great with lots of excellent reviews and we expected quality work and good advice!

it is worth noting that not following the technical drawing this will cause problems with some sink accessories like colanders and chopping boards that can be placed over and in the sinks when not in use.

With regards to the Quartz, was it all cut to size on site then?

Also regarding the sink mounting, I do not think trapping it between the cabinet and the slab is going to be as good as using the supplied fixing clips that clamp tight to the work surface.

Clips should look something like this:
