German Kitchen with Granite worktops & Lustrolite.

The plumbers on this job were tossers.
The sparkys weren't much better. Neither were the normal contracting companies that I had worked with on other projects for this builder. I nearly came to blows with the plumber after I told him he had put all his pipework too high and would need to move it. He had been given a specification sheet showing where the pipes should be, but he chose to ignore it......Tosser!!@@!!

I agree that the electrical sockets spoil it. 

Don't you just hate it when other trades just do what they want and not follow an instruction...

I had a sparks on a site, standing on Oak tops I had fitted the day before, chopping out the walls above with a bolster. he didnt even cover the tops. They had to be sanded and oiled again which I didnt do, I told the main contractor to get someone else to do it. You do wonder what goes through these morons minds ,not a lot probably lol

When you go round a window reveal with lustrolite, do you trim the top edges, or leave them?  I did one a few months back and put the corner trim on the vertical corner but left it off the horizontal edge - it looked a bit unfinished, but probably better than trying to mitre trims everywhere

I know what you mean Owen, but I normally just polish the top edges that are going to be seen with the soft abrasive pad that comes in the installation kit. Then just run a bead of sealant around afterwards.

Lustrolite do offer quite a selection of different trims, in colour matched plastic to match the chosen colour of the Lustrolite, or an anodised aluminium set of trims.
I do use the outside corner trim when going round a corner like a window reveal as you have to allow for the expansion & contraction of the acrylic panels. All the trims take this movement into account within their shape & profile, whereas if you just butt the panels together, you may well find that when the panels move, you will end up with gaps or the panels pushing each other apart.

On the internal corners, I just leave a mm or so gap to allow for the movement. Apparently, the panels can expand & contract by a mm/meter.

I have had to replace 1 panel that I fitted since I started fitting Lustrolite as I cut it too tight in low temperatures. 3 months later, when the warmer weather arrived, the panel expanded and started to warp as it was trapped between an inside corner and a full height Quartz splashback.

Yeah I just went by the instructions and left 3mm gaps on all joints and packed them 3mm off the quartz tops too. Then these gaps were all covered with a matching silicone bead (white)

Nice one Tim. Only just really looked at this one properly as viewed on my phone before. Think I prefer this one to the other plot, just has a warmer feel to it. 

What was the reasoning behind the 2 different layouts BTW? I assume they had pre-sold the houses and the new owner could customise them?

What height units were they as it doesn't look overly tall but then there seems quite a lot of space above the F/F, so i'm guessing they are a lot taller than they look.

Lastly are siemens or neff going to be bringing out a new double oven or have they completely abandoned them now? I can't believe there is such little call for them as they say because I still get asked for them quite a bit and it's not always ideal when you're forced to use the old styling. In this case it doesn't seem to have mattered as it's not next to the new styled microwave, or did you design it that way because you knew it would cause you issues?

"Double Ovens" are hardly ever sold in Germany now.....!!!! It's a British thing apparently...!!!! The Europeans have moved on I suppose. Most of them tend to have an Oven & Combi configuration. Hence, when BSH did there revamp last year on the single and compact cooking appliances, they never bothered updating their Double Oven range. Market forces just did'nt justify it. The design has stayed the same for a good few years now.

 I do still sell a few Double ovens, but always try to steer Clints towards the separate Oven & Combi. In fact, when I do sell a kitchen with a Double oven in it, it causes me all sorts of extra headaches coz a lot of the European kitchen manufacturers don't even list a Double Oven housing in their price list/ catalogue. I have to do a separate drawing when ordering one showing where/how I want the 880mm aperture, doors/ drawers etc.

On these Builder/Developer spec'ed kitchens, budget was a significant factor so the Builder wanted Double Ovens. As the Microwave on this kitchen is on the opposite side of the room, the fact that the fascia's on the 2 appliances are different, is not so much of an issue & the Client that bought the house is happy enough with it.
