Nice looking kitchens mate,

I was very suprised at the cost differance in glass tops when i priced them up. Are they low iron glass?

I wouldn't have thought so given the green/blue tinge

They are low iron, the sand blasting kinda defeats the purpose though.

Are you sure? I thought you said the back paint was 'Snow White'? but you can see quite a bit of green cast when looking at the edge of the worktop which would mean it's not low-iron glass. The sandblasting shouldn't make a difference to the colour. Maybe it's just the picture and the glass is a lot clearer when viewed in the flesh (colour wise I mean)

the sandblasting and paint reduce the light passing through and as such alter the appearance

lol, can see why you would have thought that though

in hindsight it would have been just as well to use standard glass due to the sandblasting

BTW How did the coating stand up to oil and even oily finger prints? was it easy to clean and leave a streak free appearance? I like the look of leather finish granite but it can be a bitch to clean, well not clean but to leave it with a uniform surface.

I like the idea of the sandblasting just wonder about how effective the coating is on it and also the upkeep seeing as it's a surface that by it's very nature gets cleaned alot and harsh chemicals can strip the coating. I know you can maintain them and even re-apply but there is a cost involved. But hey if you want nice things they need looking after.

It's certainly something i'd think about spec'ing but wonder at the downsides involved.

The ritec coating seems to last for several years, I did however advise the customer to avoid harsh cleaning products. Mild detergants should not cause any probs. They were fitted a few months ago and no Clints so far. This was the first time we used this method, before we fitted them I had a sample peice made and messed about to see if it was practicle. It seemed pretty resiliant.

Great, that's what I wanted to know

My brother actually owns a glazing factory and does all our worktops and splashbacks so i'll get him to knock a sample up and see what happens
