If the Manufacturers Instructions allow sufficient clearance you can run upstands behind a gas hob (you can sometimes get away with 30mm). This is usually achieved by using oversized tops and bring the units forward to suit.
Interesting detail on the worktop edge - don't see that very often. Usually just a round over or slight chamfer.
Agree with the tower end panel. Cut rebate for plinth every time and agree with clearances above upstands for sockets. I've seen upstands cut out to accept sockets which is just wrong on every level.

Where did you get the kitchen from? Make/supplier I mean....
Thanks Stretch I appreciate your kind words ... Never thought about running the upstand behind the hob not sure how that would have looked tiling on the upstand. We have an old property so I wanted a detail on the worktop that would tie in with the period.
The kitchen is Crown Lifestyle and the doors are the Gala range.
