Not just sketches anymore ...

I know this section is really for pictures of kitchens you lot have fitted ... but I was just so pleased with myself for getting this first picture to work!

The customer wasn't sure whether or not she would like a black coffee machine fitted above a steel steam oven (nobody does a black one for less than about £2k) - so I cut and pasted pictures of the real things into my sketch .....



Then I designed an island with curved ends - joined to a circular butcher's block with cupboards under - at 45 degrees to the rest of the kitchen. It was an absolute bugger to draw. But just think of the poor sod who's got to make it!



Give me three months or so ... and I'll post pictures of the real thing (long lead time for hand made kitchens).

Not at all Majjie, this is what you do for a living and as such you're perfectly entitled to post up anything you like. It's good to see this section finally getting a bit of use.

Thank you all for your Clints. I'm trying to move away from doing sketches to using the computer - but for some kitchens the sketches work best.

Well, here it is at last ... still looks a bit new and unused because the fitting has only just finished - but I love it. Surprise!

The lady of the house changed her mind about dark granite and chose an unusual pale veined one. I wish more people would go for paler granites - I think it looks great.

Looks absolutely stunning Majjie. As well as fitting kitchens I design most of my fits myself (with good old Kitchendraw then my Crown supplier uses his Planit software to get some really good quality 3D renditions) and I get a great amount of satisfaction in seeing my design come to life, as I'm sure have done with this one.

Do you rely on your customers to source their own fitters or do you have fitters that you have used in the past and recommend them on?

It's good to see people being less cautious about mixing door styles these days I have just fitted a Crown kitchen with crystal oak downstairs and white ash effect upstairs, pictures to follow soon!

In this particular case, the kitchen was made by a cabinetmaker, Steve DeVille, and he asked me to go and see his customers and design it for them. He's a one man band ... that's why it took so long to make. He makes it and then fits it.

It's more usually the other way round ... they're my customers and I look for someone to make/supply and fit the kitchen. I've got Steve to make and fit quite a few of mine - but it all depends on the budget. This one was quite pricey!

I do get asked to recommend fitters - but I work over a big area and I don't know who's good and who isn't! I've mentioned before that there isn't a good way to find a good fitter.
