Hi everyone , just registered and new to this forum but not to the trade. I have been making and installing kitchen and bedrooms since the early eighties so have seen all various fashions along the way , hand painted , limed oak , bleached oak , shaker etc etc.
One of the reasons i have joined this forum is to see how you guys find it out there because over the past few years I have completely become disappointed with the fitting trade. This weeks kitchen fit problems have included a 900x900 corner base ordered the wrong size so I've had to dismantle and cut down to a 800x800 , install the correct size carousel and then find the carousel fouls on the door hinges , pre fitted a undermount Blanco sink in the carcass to be told by the customer it's the wrong sink , midi height oven carcass ordered with the wrong aperture for the oven , a 300 wide larder unit with a fixed shelf at the wrong height for the ironing board to fit in and there are several more problems all on the same installation .
So am i in the minority with problems with every install or is this the norm ?

You say you have been making kitchens since the early 80,s, but I,m assuming that you did'nt make the one you're fitting this week!

You would think in these difficult trading times that people would be doing their best to ensure that all the i,s had been dotted and the t,s crossed, and that all the units etc were 100% correct, but shit still seems to keep on happening! I know how you feel, it can be very frustrating.

I buy my kitchens in from 2 main suppliers, one German and the other English. The quality and consistency has always been with the Germans, the English kitchens still have on-going problems, even after repeated moans and Clints to them. I.m sure, a lot of the other guys may find it the opposite way round, but thats my experience!

Hi Transporter,

Sounds like you had a bad week mate! Surely all your jobs can't be this bad can they? Do you just fit for the one company? Times are hard at the moment and like snezza says you would think that if there isn't much work about every job would go out perfect but because of these hard time firms have cut there work force down to their minimum and below so creating rushed work.

There aren't that many solutions in my opinion. Stick with it till thing get better and advise them where they are going wrong or move on.

Come on transporter spill the beans mate who's job was it?

jobs sometimes go tits, lesson learnt and all that.

if the issues are down to you then take it on the chin and crack on, if they are customer or manufacturer then kick off.
are you dealing with the customer at the planning stage?

We are on a job at the moment where the client greats the lads every morning with a cup of tea followed by floods of tears and shouting about how far behind we are - 2 weeks because she keeps changing here F*&king mind.

Its a bloody nightmare for everyone involved !!
