Cost mate.
They originally had a budget of 15k but stretched to 20k to have everything they wanted. Even though the layout and design is fairly unchanged from the original because it worked for them with just the fridge and cooker swapped around, there was in fact a fair amount of associated works - removing 3 old floors to get back to sub-floor, UFH, Engineered flooring, new ceiling back to joists, new lighting, new electrical ring etc etc. So whilst it wouldn't cost a huge amount to move the boiler and put a dresser around it, all things told it would have been an extra £1.3k once you've moved the boiler, bricked up the old flue, plastered, the unit, install blah blah blah..
