Howdy chaps



Thought I would ping up the photos of the tops I mentioned a couple of weeks ago.


Just finished today, (had to do a couple of smaller kitchens in the mean time.)


It was a door and top replacement sadly, so don't shoot me for the poor line up, design and appliances. Took a day and a bit to fit all tops. (There is a smaller utility room L-shaped top) bit small so didn't bother with the photo.

Looks really tidy,

A pain to do that many joints though, even more so with the step out of the units to the right of the island and going in to the window reveals.

Given that you've gone in to the reveals, was it 900 deep blanks you used or did you plant on extra and that's where your 6 joints come in? After pricing something like that up in Maia, I often find that it isn't much more to just have it done in Corian a lot of the time

One was recessed into the window with a 900 top.


The window by the sink and the window by the breakfast bar.


In total there was

4 masons mitres (3x600 1x 900)
2 windows sill joints (2x1.2m
2 butt joints (2x600)

Surprisingly only 1 cutter. (Both sides of a rota tip)

What length and depth does the Maia come in at?

How do you mount the St/Steel sink in the top?

Did you have to rout drainer grooves in the top?

What grade of grit do you sand the tops to? 320, 400, 500...???

Do the Radii on the peninsular section come pre-done or did you have to do those as-well?

One of the reasons I ask is, I have been fabricating a set of BB Encore tops this past week in my workshop and it has taken me 3 days.
I had 3 Radii to do, a St/Steel undermount sink, drainer grooves etc etc. When the tops get installed in a few weeks time there will be 4 joints to cut and join.

Lengths varied.

3x 900x3.6
1x 600x 3.6
1x 600x 1.8


Sink module comes from the manufacturer. They had brackets for them that you screw down.

Grooves- no comes done. Just got the sink.

Grades- I go up to a 360 then brillow pad, then polish on a white top.

Rounds pre done.

After all that are you wondering why IT wasn't done in half a day. Haha

No.... not at all!

To be honest with you, I had a feeling that most of the things I asked you about had been pre-done.

I have fabricated and fitted quite a few Solid Surface type tops, so I know how long it takes and how much work is involved to get them looking good.

Still, a "day and a bit" is good going

I took some pictures this week of the tops I've been fabricating whilst still in the workshop. One of the reasons was to show potential customers just how labour intensive it can be.

I may start another thread coz I know "Our Leader" loves to see pictures.......

I was thinking your mega fast, but if it's mainly pre fab I can see the time saving, but not taking anything away I'd still say that would take me 2 days and good days so you did well.

I've heard of these sinks coming pre fab, not seen it!I always have to do it myself, I can see the time saving in encore but it's expensive for a 6mm lipping IMO, by the time it's fitted sanded polished it isn't far off Hanex or corian, but you need a workshop etc for that,

All being said its getting more and more popular.

With Encore, it depends on what type of edge you need to apply Graftershave........some of the edgings are 6mm thick, the ones that are just needed for straight ends. Anything curved and the edgings are only 1.7mm thick......and they do break VERY easily......don't ask me how I know this........I'm trying to forget all about it

Both are expensive for what they are.

I think it was about £3k for all the tops. Came up really nice. Surprising as I don't have a 900 jig. lol


Sadly not that fast. Wasn't going flat out though. Domestic work stops that.
