Well, i must admit this is going more slowly than I thought.  ( yes I told you so say the crowd)
Having to do some plastering as I am going and that's bit of a slow down as well.

I had a clear idea exactly how I wanted the final look, but achieving it with these units I have bought is taking a lot of " manipulating " of the tall units. 5 of them in total, well 4 x 600 and 1 I plan on cutting well down to accommodate a pillar that cant be moved. (supporting wall.)

Arlene's one stipulation, our lass, thought in last units, the cooker etc were set higher than she would have preferred making the top of the tower units too high and wanted them lower.  ok, i thought, no problem. trying to sort it has taken a lot longer than I thought. Of course, thers a myriad of holes in the carcass, but are they where you want them ..... no ....... chance.  Not without things going higher than I wanted anyhow. We have a twin oven, and in the adjacent tower want a oven/micro with the coffee machine on top. They are all AEG and I thought they would fly in.

Think I've got it sorted in the end but it has taken me best part of the day. ha ha.
 
Think this is what makes me a DIY man and yous lot professionals.

Adapting the units for the rails has not been a problem, so far anyhow. Mind you I am not onto the base units yet, just done the towers.

To add to all this Arlene's just lost the dog, and had me out 2 half hrs walking through 2-foot grass and muddy woods in the dark looking for him. Thought he had gone for good. Try looking for a tone deaf black dog in the dark for a laugh. Especially with half your sole hanging off your trainer letting the water in !.

Anyhow a little update on how it's going. I still have no inserts sorted, although Sneeza has said he may have an option for me. Just looking at it I think I could knock something up at work that may do the job if I end up being stuck. 

Time to get the beers out and have a good think about this.

Thanks for introducing us to your wife and extended family, ie the dog.

This project sounds as though it will take a life time to to finish, especially as you have an errant dog in the mix but we, collectively, admire your dedication and can't wait to see pics of the finished job.

First of all yes we found the dog. or should I say he just reappeared in the car park she had originally parked in, sniffing around a bin searching for anything he can eat as he always does.  she did give him a good talking to, insisting he knew he had done wrong. clever dogs these cocker spaniels, understand every word you say, even when they're practically deaf!.

I've just had to put another power supply in the pc, and the hot water just has gone off, to take up some more time. looks like the thermistor, again. these things happen exactly when you could do without them.

I still haven't finished the tower side of the kitchen. it seems that I never get as far as I plan to each day. It starts with a 300 base that I am setting back a little as I can't build it into the line of tower units and keep it looking right if you get what I mean. There's then a 600, a 300 that I've managed to squeeze in, another 600, then a dogleg set back approximately  250mm with the other 2 600s continuing down.
The dogleg has the soilpipe and feeds in it for the cookers etc. the 300 I will be "modifying"  as it has a supporting wall pillar behind it making it about 300 deep.
I then have a gap at the end in which I am going to make a shelving unit out of the salvaged end panel material probably not needing to buy much more. got to be a shelving unit as there is an immovable tall radiator prohibiting any doors, and it won't be wide enough to incorporate the rails so ill have to work on it.

We do have a bit of a disagreement about the design of the plinth. she fancies the end panels to the ground whereas I think they should be cut back.
I quite fancy the lighting underneath so I think that will settle it.

We are having a dogleg over the opposing side with a 900 bench, units on both sides,  so quite fancy the lights to run right around everything.

Off I go now to change the thermistor and see what today brings.

I've also managed to stick some Bostic in my trainer after drying them out. sodden dogs, don't you just love them! Have to sort some other footwear.

I have only one request....when you post your kitchen installation updates we also need updates about how your day was in between and that includes any canine or spouse issues.....just the funniest stuff I have ever had to deal with for years...

Stuey, the reason why professional fitters like us normally get called upon is we will be in and out in two weeks and you'll be off during the day to earn the money to pay us.

I take my hat off to you for taking this on on your own as it will be lengthy and frustrating at times and it might be months before it's finished.

As far as the end panels are concerned, rebate them to allow the plinth to run through. Don't listen to the wife.

And don't use Bostik to repair your trainers. Use Mitre Mate instead as it will come in useful for various other jobs in your kitchen project.

I think you are really brave to take this on. I'm a "professional" and the way I deal with the rare request I get for a true handleless quote is to find another quote to do that isn't true handleless! I should get round to quoting on one but I've only had one TH enquiry in the last year. I've had a lot going on in the last year and couldn't be arsed with it.

I'm intrigued to see how your saga progresses. It's good reading so far! However we would all love to see some pictures. Don't wait to the end, work in progress shots would be good as well. You will find that the people on here have a really good eye for detail and will almost certainly be able to offer you good advice if they can see what is going on.
