A lengthy kitchen fit... - snezza - 01-03-2021

I started this job back in October. I finally got around to taking pictures of the completed job today whilst finishing off the fitted Office that I've been doing upstairs.

Pictures of kitchen, dining room  and utility room before & during the wall coming down.

Below is a picture of 1200mm Pan Drawer pack below the 2 Ovens. A lot of reinforcement below the Ovens and substantial fixings up into the ceiling joists to carry the weight of the Ovens.

The photo below is a TV with no visible cables and flush with the wall......It looks just like a picture hanging on the wall.

I made all the cabinets myself and the doors/drawerfronts etc all came from IDM in N.Ireland. Doors are 2 different shades of Grey and are solid 1 piece doors, 22mm thick. Base units are 780mm high on 100mm plinth. Wall units and the upper doors on all the tall units are all custom height to fit in the space allowing for the coving to run around the top of all the upper and tall cabinets.

Worktops, upstands & window cills are 20mm Carrara Quartz, appliances are all Miele, sink is from Blanco, tap is a Quooker with sparkling water function, flooring is Karndean.

All new ceilings, coving, dimmable LED's everywhere, Cat5 cableing and outlets, 5amp lighting points in dining area, WarmUp electric underfloor heating in kitchen area. All plumbing in Utility room moved & replaced to conceal. Tall radiator re located within kitchen. Original kitchen door removed and bricked up.

False walls/ alcoves are all made with 12mm MRMDF with 45 degree mitred edges so there is no end grain on show.

Glass framed doors are all TipOn opening. Thanks to JRB for supplying all the glass and to PJK for his advice and the sample of the glass beading he sent me.

Yes i do like that one a lot. ThumbUp

The coving around the walls,  was that to hide the strapping for the ovens?  Nice detailing all over.  Do like the boiler and stable detail.

ThumbUp  Top fit mate.

I have the same tops in my utility, the only thing with them is they are one of the softer stones, very easy to cut and polish.

Doing the coving the way I did was more to do with the aesthetics really. The fact that the kitchen has now become part of the dining room and the customer wanted to keep the flowing look.

The Ovens weight are supported by a 25mm x 50mm box section of steel rebated into the top of the 1200 drawer pack. I also made the top of the drawer pack with a solid 18mm top rather than the normal front & rear rails. This is what the 2 ovens actually sit on as there are no bottoms in the 2 oven housing cabinets.
All the base, tall & wall units have 18mm backs in them as the normal 8mm back material was not available at the time of the cabinet construction.

The 2 oven housings are fixed up into the ceiling through the void behind the coving boxing via some soft wood that bridges between 4 of the ceiling joists. Overall, it's really solid, which is just as well coz those are a matching pair of Miele Pyro ovens..!!

I cant remember the Quartz brand off the top of my head.....not cheap though!

I did all the work on my own apart from putting up the ceiling in the kitchen diner and the plastering of that ceiling. A mate came and gave me a hand coz it's a big ceiling to plaster on your own.

Also, the Karndean was arranged to be fitted by the customer.
