Solid Oak Worktops- Bit Dissapointed. - Alex Morley - 02-12-2014 As the title suggest I am a little dissapointed with the mitres. I had to hand plane them in as my TS was a mile out. (Dropped it a while ago) - my bad. So the hand tools had to come out of retirement. Sorry for the replays. (Prob should use that photobucket thing) .......... ......... ......... RE: Solid Oak Worktops- Bit Dissapointed. - chip off the block - 02-12-2014 Nice planes, veritas and clifton? Doing the same on a job starting Monday. 3 mitred slab ends and also a small book shelf/case in the back of the island Did this one a few years back in a bathroom we fitted. With a 3 way mitre on one corner (must dig out the final completed pics, but it shows it well enough I suppose) RE: Solid Oak Worktops- Bit Dissapointed. - Alex Morley - 05-12-2014 It's a no. 7. Used to be my go to plane back in the day. lol when I was on the bench. ? I will be honest I was hoping for a lot better. Can't really explain. Just when you have a standard you know you can meet and doesn't happen it's very disappointing. Pictures look awesome if yours though. APU. RE: Solid Oak Worktops- Bit Dissapointed. - Colour Republic - 05-12-2014 Not sure what you're not happy about pal? Ok Pic 2 shows chip out on the underside. Who cares? it will never been seen until the kitchen is ripped out. What difference is there between that and cuting an end panel which has a perfect cut on the front and chip out on the back? Pic 3 shows slight chip out on the top edge. But you would never have the top edge that sharp and after you've sanded and put an aris on that edge it will disappear. Pic 4... what are you not happy about? the fact the mitre doesn't go perfectly to the corner and is 1-2mm down after your've sanded? Honestly i'm the most anal personal in the world in getting perfection. Perfection is possible, yet the cost in doing so is often far out weighed by what people are willing to pay. Leaving the mitre 1-2mm down is MORE than acceptable, it shouldn't even be a consideration. It's a nice mitre. Honestly what you've produced is a good professional finish which is well above an 'acceptable' standard (05-12-2014, 10:00 PM)Alex Morley Wrote: Pictures look awesome if yours though. APU. Not sure if i'm reading that right? 'If yours though'? Not sure if you missed the text next to the pics and just thought I was offering it up as an example? or if you doubt I did it?.... i'm going with missed the text RE: Solid Oak Worktops- Bit Dissapointed. - chip off the block - 05-12-2014 I think its more that the miter is open slightly but it looks fine with the filler |
