Looks good Snezza. ThumbUp German tops with UK units?

RE: Another Kitchen with Lustrolite (Mocca) - snezza - 11-07-2014

Kitchen is German (Stormer) Contura Magnolia Matt Lacquered, Oven, Induction Hob, Integrated hood and D/W are all Siemens. Sink and Tap are Blanco. Worktops are also supplied by Stormer and are one of Duropal's latest colours. I really like the tops and may put it on display in the showroom.

The base units have 780mm high doors on them and 100mm plinths. Although the cabinets only gain an extra 60mm of storage in height, it does all add up on a small kitchen like this.

I had to fit a new window sill to match the existing window, but it all turned out pretty well. Client is well pleased, so that's all that matters in the end.

Snezza.

How does lustrolite hold up behind hobs sneeza?

Does it work out cheaper than glass?

How does it finish on an edge?

Sorry for all the questions but I like it, and fancy putting it on one of my jobs.

Thanks

I have only fitted it behind Induction hobs and so far, I have had no issues whatsoever.
Lustrolite can supply a matching "Glass" panel to go behind a hob ( a necessity behind a gas hob or non-induction electric hob). The heat produced would more than likely affect the acrylic material, but induction works differently.

I have fitted a few kitchens with Glass splashbacks, and its not only the cost of the glass that makes it more expensive. The time factor is usually the problem as you have to pay for the templating of the glass, usually 2 weeks for fabrication and then waiting for them to come back and fit it.

With Lustrolite, you can do it all yourself in 1 day.

I do all the edge cutting with my Festool TS55 and this blade    http://www.powertool-supplies.co.uk/festool-special-saw-blade-160x2-2x20-tf52.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqfb1m4DC3AIVCBIbCh0Z_AtHEAQYAiABEgIRVPD_BwE

The blade is designed with this type of material in mind. It cuts really clean and all you need to do is use the polishing sponge (slightly damp) that comes in the installers set, and the edges look like polished glass.

Actually, those floor tiles presented the biggest challenge of the whole job !

The original kitchen was also a German kitchen (Rational), fitted in 1979 and the original fitters decided in their wisdom, to tile the floor AFTER the kitchen had been fitted and AFTER Doh Doh Doh the plinths had been fitted.
When the existing kitchen was removed, I had to overdepth all the worktops and base unit gables to accommodate the floor tiles. All the worktops were ordered in and delivered at 700mm depth and cut down onsite.

The client is very pleased with the end result and she does have plenty of worktop space.

Snezza.

PS. I forgot to mention that the Le-Mans unit and the corner carousel units are both Soft-Close systems, and the D/W is one of those Mega height models that has a system on it that raise's the furniture door up when its opened to clear the plinth due to the shortened height plinth.

Nice fit Snezza …… soft close Le Mans are nice and sliding dishwasher door is also a really good design feature, although I did have one break on me last month after only 6 months use !!

I was wondering about the double under counter oven with filler panel below, but the 780mm cabinets answer that one.

Got to say i'm coming round to the idea of lustrolite as it does look quite nice there.

But can I ask what sort of prices you are paying for a sheet? 2.4x1

Going by online prices it seems to work out at about £125sqm, which seems a but pricey to me as I pay £165sqm for glass splash back inc fitting. Ok there are additional costs for each cut out or a CNC set-up charge if I want shapes but it's not huge amount of difference.

Or maybe the sheets are much cheaper trade?

Do lustrolite send out samples so they can be used and abused and see how they stand up to scratching?
