The doofers use expands! - Cliff1970 - 25-01-2014 Hi All, Well overdue an update on here, apologies for the infrequency but life is pretty darn full. There's now over 100,000 Space-Plugs out the factory and we're looking to double that in the next month. All exciting stuff. We're about to make a second video, this time demonstrating how with Space-Plugs "flat back furniture" can be beneficial in so many ways and i'll put underneath the copy from an editorial which is just going to print in Furniture Production Magazine and hopefully the KBB mag next month. SP should be at the KBB exhibition on the MVI Hazel stand and i'll be there Tuesday/Wednesday. We've got our first manufacturer offering their kitchens with Space-Plugs, a great family run firm called "pebble" down near Bristol, and in discussion with at least half a dozen more. LDL have reported great enthusiasm and a massive response, PWS have their inital order and you'll find us in their January catalogue Pictured below) and ToolStation have theirs too so you'll be able to get them from the high street come March. HPP have also promised an order very iminently and we're talking to so many others. In short.... all good, the market is really taking to the idea and we're looking increasing likely to go from strength to strength - but the best news is at the bottom of the page! here's the PWS catalogue page to look for here's the copy for Furniture Production Magazine: Can we have a little less cheek please? The answer has come back from Space-Plug as… YES! As, in just the same way as it made sense to reduce the cabinet from the floor with the introduction of adjustable legs some 25 years ago, now, with the introduction of Space-Plug, it is possible for manufacturers to make another saving and this time reduce the cabinet from the wall, with an almost identical plethora of benefits to manufacturers, fitters and end users. By including Space-Plugs and shortening the cheeks, in essence creating a, “flat-back” piece of furniture, manufacturers can now benefit from substantial savings in raw materials, cubic capacity and weight. Three areas to save, and three areas to benefit with economic savings to be banked, green environmental benefits to be had, plus added sales benefit to reap. Space-Plug is already proving to be very popular and growing fast! Naturally there is a dependence on individual design and cabinet size, but less board is now required, in some cases up to 10% less board. Saving money, the environment and transport costs. On top of that, especially for those manufacturing rigid kitchens, there is also the additional savings of up to 15% cubic capacity saving in warehousing space, lorry space and even fitters vans space. Everything is lighter to handle and cheaper to ship. Although only launched in 2013, this new and patented little orange fixing is already a hit with kitchen fitters and furniture installers. Chris Knall, owner of the reputed, “Kitchen Fitters Forum” has acclaimed, “I’m completely sold on the idea! Fixing back has always seemed excessively awkward and Space-Plug solves that problem and a whole lot more! It’s such a simple concept and yet sets it stall out as coming packed with benefits, and after personally trialling it’s become apparent, that’s very true.” In just a few months Space-Plug has already attracted retail distribution with such companies as LDL Online, PWS and HPP amongst others. MVI Hazel have taken the product to Ireland and it will reach the high street in March at Toolstation via their new distributor ForgeFix. John Exton, Sales Director at Space-Plug commented, “Interest is through the roof especially for such a young product and we seem to be set to have a big impact on the fitted furniture industry, this year, and well into the future. The retail interest is clearly demonstrating the potential benefits of including Space-Plug, “in the box” and the ability to use this to a sales advantage.” Bristol based Pebble Kitchens have been quick to respond and are set to be first to market with this new system. They are already offering their own made to order cabinets with reduced cheeks and Space-Plugs as preferred and are also working hard towards the launch of their new off the shelf range of units, “Pebble Express” before this March. Pebble Express will be the first rigid kitchen to come flat backed with Space-Plugs included and is already keenly awaited. Rich Autton, Production Manager at Pebble said, “We’ve been looking for a fixing to allow flat backed for some time as it simply makes more sense. We’re delighted to have found Space-Plug and are very excited about the future. We can make savings and the fitters no longer have to modify our units on site, providing fitters with a faster neater fit and leaving our return edge banding intact.” In a time when we have become used to so many new developments coming from corporate funded, technical advancements in materials, ascetics and functionality it is rare to find, and a tribute to the innovation behind Space-Plug, such a simple, mechanical product, spawned from an independent source, that has the potential to impact so highly on an industry. Check out their website, www.space-plug.com for further info and contact details and as it says on there, “Hats off to Space-Plug”. But the best bit has to be my presentation trophy - pictured here hanging with pride in my office next to a rather fetching characature of me n the missus some 14 years ago!!!! For those that don't know this was presented to me at the social - whilst every expense was clearly spared (), it's meaning to me is in no way impaired and i'm very proud - sincere thanks guys - awesome tribute RE: The doofers use expands! - jonny round boy - 25-01-2014 (25-01-2014, 02:21 PM)Cliff1970 Wrote: Chris Knall, owner of the reputed, “Kitchen Fitters Forum” Reputed?!?!? One thing that really amazes me is how computer savvy so many guys are on here for supposed carpenters! It takes me total determination and patience just to post a pic (let alone resize it ) All i can say is a huge thank you, that i'm feeling the ......and the price will come down as soon as poss I've hated having to put the price up so much on retail, you all know i've spent my life on the other side of the counter and would be definitely saying they're well pricey.....but you wouldn't believe how little that has to do with me! But i'm working hard on getting them in the box for you guys FOC......you can help by complaining to your carcase suppliers that they are missing from the pack by all means a manufacturer can save over the cost of SP's by going flat back and it means we can ALWAYS just stand in place, level and fix, no matter what the wall is doing, what services are mounted on the wall, never a need to offer up and chop or pack, always get a perfectly continuous front edge immediately and never multi tool off the reverse edge banding - so if it saves you time, helps get it neater, looks more pro, and works so much easier got to be worth a nag to your reps! get them to get in touch some big smart companies already doing just that |
