Hello Everyone - Gattaca - 20-09-2012
Brand new to the forum. I am looking at starting a business in the industry which would help people sell their house by offering the buyer a choice of brand new kitchen, fitted before they move in - Just like buying a 'new home'
It's taking a lot longer to figure out all the details before I launch but I have alot of experience in selling property with very dated kitchens and have been a Director of a company which offered a similar concept.
I do hope I can get to know some of the forum members and can add some useful info myself!

Welcome Gattaca.
Sounds like you have an interesting concept for a new business - albeit one that will require a huge amount of work, organisation and co-orporation between all parties.
I can see many pitfalls to the idea but I don't want to piss on your chips, so all I will say is best of luck with it - where there is a will there is a way

Have you got a kitchen supplier in mind or will it be down to the customer to decide?

HI Daniel,
Thanks for you welcome. Don't worry about pissing on my chips, I had to buy a pi55 proof umbrella because I am going to keep on regardless 8-)
You are 100% correct about the organisation & co-operation part of the business and this is what I am spending all my time researching and refining the offer and how it's delivered. I have experience in this type of co-ordination in previous career.
Will keep you posted on my sloooow progress

Great to hear you find the concept interesting. after alot of research and some very interesting meeting with 2 different 'full service' suppliers the supplier decision narrows down to the type of companies that supply immediately from stock or overnight, this has become the critical element to the concept. I will choose a maximum of 3 of these types of supplier to offer a good range of choice to buyers. I have one national trade chain already with agreed terms and am in contact with others. Limiting the choice makes things easier for the concept to work as Daniel pointed out in prev post, the logistics could prove difficult and I want to keep the offer simple to understand and to deliver.
In effect the buyer gets the kind of choice that a buyer of a 'New Home - like David Wilson, Redrow ETC would give, and as I understand their offer it is very limited in respect of colourways, cabinet etc.

I suppose what I was thinking was that for most people buying a house is one of the most stressful times in their lives, second only perhaps to fitting a kitchen
. Therefore combing the two will be an 'interesting' few months.On the flip side perhaps some people will see this as an opportunity to kill two stressful birds with one stressful stone.
I would think one of the biggest mistakes someone might make is to accept things they are not 100% happy with to hurry the process - going without a kitchen for 'another' couple of weeks is one thing, going without a home for 'another' couple of weeks is another !!
Like I said before though, its an interesting idea

I think you have hit the nail fairly and squarely on the head!
Another vital element to the offer is to have the kitchen fitted BEFORE the new buyer moves in.
I have been involved in over 2,000 house sales for possibly the most difficult and demanding customers ( over 60's with mobility & health issues) and spent most of my waking hours trying to sell houses which have kitchens that are over 30 years old and a real barrier to a sale, hence this idea
I have realised that the only way to make it work is with the best independent local fitters

I like the idea gattaca. The reason for most of the stress for customers is emptying the kitchen and finding somewhere to put it. As all there belongings will already be packed I can't think of a more perfect time for a new kitchen. Congratulations on what I think is a great idea mate.
