RE: Penthouse Kitchen - snezza - 05-10-2012

All the long sections of material had to be passed up the centre of the staircase! A team of 6 blokes passing up to each other hand over hand. The doors for the sliding partition were real fun and games.......!!!

One thing in the kitchen that I'd expected Clints on, no-one has mentioned! The splashback behind the hob and the panel behind the desk in the office. These are a one-off, made by an artist that uses veneer in a decorative way. The client has a few more of these panels mounted on the walls around the apartment. They cost THOUSANDS!!!!

Not keen on the office one Snezza if I'm honest. The kitchen one would look nice in another kitchen. Sos, I know it's not your choice but hate to bad mouth a great kitchenThumbUp

Have seen this done before, it is a true skill working with veneers.. I quite like them ThumbUp But I am a big fan of natural wood finishes!

I was just coming on to say about that splashback, i really dont like it, but i think thats because it just looks out of place in that kitchen to me

Dont get me wrong, I think in the right kitchen, it would look fantastic. But I have to agree with Chip, it looks wrong in this kitchen. The quality of the workmanship( actually workwomanship.....!!!!), is superb. It was a right PITA as well, coz it had to be "let into the wall" to end up flush with the 12mm upstand. Overall thickness with the Glass front panel was 18mm.

I was going to say something about it but I said something similar in your last kitchen and I didn't want to go on about the same thing as I thought you obviously like it, but like the others I don't.

I always think its difficult to make a single pane of splash back like this look part of the kitchen, they always really 'stick' out to my eye. On this one even more so.

Like PJ I don't like snubbing too much in my posts as I know their are a lot of things about designs that are out of your control ..... i.e. poor customer taste Big Grin

EDIT : looking back the one in the office does look amazing but its too close to the rest of the furniture so from the pictures at least it just looks like a panel that doesn't match......perhaps in real life its better. If the rest of the furniture was another colour I think it would look really nice.

RE: Penthouse Kitchen - PREM - 06-10-2012

i like the process just not the duplicated pattern reversed,
i did a job this year with blown glass splash back. this glass is inlayed with coloured strips of glass which are 3- 8 mm protruding from the flat and the air bubbles are 3- 40mm. didnt think it ideal for behind a cooking appliance, but this woman was a clean freek.
